Cloches de la paix : commémoration de la Première Guerre mondiale
Bells of Peace: WWI Remembered is an Android app developed by the US Foundation for Commemoration of the World Wars. It is a support tool for the national bell tolling initiative called "Bells of Peace," which takes place on November 11th at 11 am local time to honor those who served and sacrificed in WWI.
The app allows users to participate in the initiative by tolling bells. Users can select from a variety of bell sounds and the app counts down to 11 am local time on November 11th, when all the phones with the app open and set to auto toll will ring together. If users don't have access to a bell, the app provides an alternative by allowing them to toll the bells manually.
One unique feature of the app is its ability to aggregate social media posts from Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube. Users can tag their posts with #BellOfPeace, and the app will publish them into its management dashboard. Although not all posts will be published, it provides a great way for users to share how they and their organizations remembered and participated in Bells of Peace.
This app serves as a reminder of the importance of the moment when the guns fell silent and the fighting ceased on the Western Front inIt is a tribute to the 4.7 million Americans who served in WWI, the over 200,000 who were wounded, and the 116,516 who made the ultimate sacrifice. The Bells of Peace initiative is sponsored by the Doughboy Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to honoring those who served in WWI.
